Buying the Whole Package
Recovery from addiction can be a wonderful life-changing experience. It does require a certain degree of personal effort to obtain. Although, as addicts or alcoholics, we tend to complicate everything we do, our solutions are very simplistic. Our philosophy of “buying the whole package” includes: residing in a safe clean and sober environment, attending daily 12 step meetings, joining and serving a home group, working with a sponsor, working the 12 steps, helping others and developing a recovery support network. An important part of the package is “having fun in recovery”. It is very important for us to enjoy the journey. Each part of the package is a piece of the puzzle that together, makes a complete picture of recovery.
Experience Strength and Hope
My clean date is 7-13-1983. I was fortunate to have a sponsor in early recovery who taught me about buying the whole package. I still practice all the elements of working a program in my life today. We have an expression, “if it works, don’t fix it”, so I continue to do today what I did in the beginning to maintain my recovery.
My purpose in life has become sharing my personal experience strength and hope with others in the hopes of helping them find and maintain a life in recovery. I have worked in the field of addiction for over 20 years and have helped people in all walks of life and many different cultures. Utilizing the combination of both my professional and personal recovery experience, directing the Aloha House has afforded me the opportunity to continue to work with newcomers in the hopes of helping them find their path to a new way of life.
